Review: When the Yogurt Took Over

When the Yogurt Took Over When the Yogurt Took Over by John Scalzi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Scalzi is just so much fun to read. The story is every bit as ridiculous as the title suggests, and I mean that in a good way.

Review: Hangman's Holiday

Hangman's Holiday Hangman's Holiday by Dorothy L. Sayers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A quick, satisfying read, from the time when all novelists also wrote stories. A few star Wimsey, a couple star Montague Egg, commercial traveler, and a few stand alone, including one of the best. Just the thing for those who aren't sure if they'll enjoy Sayers, or for readers who need a brief diversion.

Review: The Tomato Thief

The Tomato Thief The Tomato Thief by Ursula Vernon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I could easily be convinced that this is an ancient bit of myth retold by a pro. The desert is not a habitat that holds affinity for me, but I dearly love a cantankerous crone and a good ripe tomato.

Thanks to karen's 2016 Advent calendar of shorter fiction available free online. And to Apex magazine.

How amazing is it that an early reader series can captivate readers of every level? Wil;ems is brilliant: these books charm and delight us all. And I continue to be gobsmacked by how much he manages to convey in the illustrations that seem so simple.

Review: Dash & Lily's Book of Dares

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

2011, April 6
2014, November 16

This is now my favorite Cohn/Levithan collaboration, because it's much lighter of heart than Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List, and because the motif throughout is books, rather than music, as in Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. And it is chock full of Christmasy goodness, without being too sugary. I love the Mommy codes, and the snowball fight, and the bad movie.
